1. Road to the Show (RTTS)
In RTTS, you can’t just swap teams on a whim, but you have several ways to push for a trade or a fresh start.
Agent Interaction: Keep an eye out for your agent’s check-ins. When they ask how you’re feeling, be honest—pick the options that show dissatisfaction. Your agent will start actively looking for trade opportunities.
Message Box Technique: Open the RTTS menu and check your Message Box in the top-right corner. You can inquire about your role or voice concerns about your current team, which sometimes nudges a trade along.
Slider Adjustments: Head into the game settings and crank the Trade Frequency Slider all the way up. This encourages the AI to process trades faster and more aggressively.
Free Agency: If you’re patient, simply play through six years of MLB 26 service time. After your contract expires, you’re free to sign with any team that makes an offer during the offseason.
2. Franchise Mode
If you’re running a team as a GM, there are a couple of ways to shake things up:
Relocating and Rebranding: Want a fresh team identity? After at least one season, the Franchise menu lets you relocate your team, redesign uniforms, and rename it. It’s your chance to start a new chapter without leaving your position.
Changing Your GM Job: When you first start as a GM, you pick a single team. To move to a different team, you need to meet your contract obligations and wait for the offseason to see if another team offers you a position. Poor performance limits your options, so sometimes the only way to jump teams is by starting a new Franchise file.
3. Diamond Dynasty (Mini Seasons)
For those in Mini Seasons or the World Baseball Classic, swapping teams is much simpler:
Go to Diamond Dynasty from the main menu.
Select Play, then head to Mini Seasons.
Before starting, you’ll see the option to substitute or replace teams in your league pool with custom cards or themed rosters. This makes experimenting with new squads easy and low-commitment.
Changing teams in MLB The Show 26 isn’t always instant, but understanding these mode-specific options can save you a lot of frustration. Whether you’re pushing for a trade in RTTS, reshaping a franchise, or trying out a new squad in Diamond Dynasty, there’s a path forward for every player.
